If you want to learn to climb outdoors the Gritstone Edges of the Peak District are an ideal place to start. Or you may have climbed on indoor walls and want to try a day out on ‘real rock’.

For climbers with some experience already we have a full range of structured climbing courses. Learn new skills, develop your technique and understand how to use the technical gear to become a safe independent climber.

You can also book any session individually and tailor it to suit your own personal, family or group requirements. As fully qualified instructors, with a wealth of climbing experience we can give you the personal support, advice and coaching right up to the highest levels.

Introduction to Outdoor Climbing

1/2 day – 2 persosn £140, 3 persons £150, 4-7 persons £45 each
Full day – 2 persons £110 each, 3 persons £75 each, 4-7 persons £60 each
Group ratio maximum of 1 instructor:6

Have a go climbing on the famous Peak District gritstone outcrops on Stanage or Burbage Edge. No prior experience necessary, you just need a sense of adventure.

You will learn about:

  • Climbing safely
  • Top rope climbs
  • How to belay
  • Climbing movement

Climbing Courses for progressing your skills

Ideal for gaining experience, learning new skills and mastering the technical aspects to achieve your personal climbing goals.

Beginner Climbing Course – 1 day

Group ratio max of 1:6

Having mastered belaying skills, improve your climbing style and learn good technique on a variety of routes.

  • Learn about different rock types
  • Progress your climbing grade
  • Skills and techniques coaching
  • Alternative belay set ups
  • Plenty of climbing

Intermediate Climbing Course

Group ratio max of 1:41 day (assumes you have completed the ‘Beginners climbing day course’ or have previous experience)

Work towards becoming an inde )pendent climber or competent second. Learn about rope work and technical climbing equipment.

  • Rope work systems
  • Using a climbers rack
  • Sep up anchor systems
  • Seconding climbs
  • Abseiling

Advanced Climbing Course – Learn to lead climb

Group ratio max of 1:3 2 days (assumes you have the knowledge of the ‘Intermediate level’ course/previous experience)

For Intermediate climbers who want to progress further onto
lead climbing for the first time. Also ideal for experienced
lead climbers who want to refresh, build confidence and
consolidate their skills.

Sports Climbing Course / Bolted Routes – 1 day (assuming you have some indoor climbing experience)

This course is a perfect introduction for anyone who has
had some indoor climbing experience and would like to try
climbing on bolted routes outside. Or maybe you’re heading to France or Spain
on a climbing trip and want to practice your skills before you
go.

You will learn the following skills:

  • Using a guide book to find routes
  • How to clip and unclip quickdraws effectively
  • Tope roping and Lead climbing sports routes
  • Threading anchors to descend the route safely
  • Belaying techniques
  • Movement skills
  • How to set up a top rope
  • Sports climbing jargon such as redpointing and onsighting.

Bouldering

1/2 day – 2 persosn £140, 3 persons £150, 4-7 persons £45 each
Full day – 2 persons £110 each, 3 persons £75 each, 4-7 persons £60 each

Bouldering is a great way to enjoy climbing outdoors and you don’t need much kit. This course is ideal if you have tried bouldering indoors and want to have a go outside. On the full day session we can take you on the gritstone and limestone of the Peak District, looking at techniques on both types of rock.

You will learn the following:

  • Guide books and how to identify boulder problems
  • Bouldering grades
  • How to ‘spot’ and keep each other safe
  • Different types of rock and techniques on each.
